Get MORE Facebook Fans & Likes

So you have decided to start your small business. Whether it is already running or not, having a website for your small business is a great idea. You will have access to an even greater market than any other media offers you. But simply having a website for your business is not enough. You need to get the word out about your website so that more people can know more about your business and therefore purchase your products or services. Search engine marketing is one of the most effective Internet marketing strategies available. As a small business owner, you may not have the capital to outsource for search engine marketing services. So where do you begin?

1. Take the time to learn more about search engine marketing. There are so many sharks in the Internet. All Internet marketing companies promise to get you large volumes of traffic in the shortest period possible. But many of these companies turn out to be pure cons or simply do not deliver on their promises. It is important that you protect yourself from getting bitten. Learning more about search engine marketing will give you an idea of what to expect with the different marketing strategies available. You will therefore set realistic goals and know the best way to achieve them.

2. Learn more about your target audience. What are they searching for? Search engine marketing depends, on a large part, on keywords and keyword phrases used in the content of your website. It is therefore important that you choose keywords that are closely related to your products and that are likely to be used by your target audience to search for your products or services.

Search engines such as Google offer external keyword research tools to help you find popular keywords in your industry. You may also use social networks such as Twitter to research your keyword.

3. Submit your website to popular search engines. You can submit your business information to popular search engines and have it listed on their indexes e.g. Google’s Local Business Center or Bing Local.

4. Create web presence. This differs from creating a website. Creating a web presence involves getting the word out about your website and business. This may be through creating a profile on a social networking site or writing articles and having them published in popular article directories. This will help to draw targeted traffic to your website.
