    Email marketing is an effective way of getting the word out about products or services that you are offering. The emails detailing your offers and new products or services are sent to the email accounts of people who have agreed to join your mailing list. This Internet marketing strategy is highly effective since it allows you to send information to people who have already shown interest in what you have to offer. However, it doesn’t mean instant success. There are still several things that must be done to ensure that your strategy is effective.

    Business owners and webmasters often face the challenge of getting past spam filters. The spam filters used in many of the Internet service providers today are very powerful. It can be difficult trying to get your emails to the people on your mailing list even when they genuinely signed up for your mailing list. Avoiding these spam filters is simple. It’s all in your content and email subject line. Avoid using words that will indicate that the email you have sent is out to sell any products. These include words such as ‘discount’, ‘sale’, ‘Free’, and ‘Save’. You should also avoid symbols such as $$$ and @ in the subject line. Spam filters are sure to pick your email out and block it for these.

    Now that your email will get through to the account user, you must ensure that your subscriber opens your email and is enticed to read through it. One way of doing this is by personalizing your email. Avoid using general terms such as ‘Hi all’ and ‘Dear customer’. Make your email more specific. Use the subscriber’s name in the salutation of the email e.g. ‘Dear John’ or ‘Hi Smith’. Subscribers feel like they have a personal relationship with you when you greet them using their first names.

    Ensure that you never get accused of being spam by including a one-click un-subscription link in all the emails that you send. This is mandated by law. It is important to ensure that your email subscribers feel that they can opt out of the emails when they want to.

    Complex HTML may be blocked by Internet service providers. Email marketing is more effective using simple HTML text. Research shows that more recipients respond to simple HTML than they do to complex formats. This may also be because their service providers only allow them to view the simple HTML.
