One of the greatest reasons that a company that makes money via websites is because of the low costs that are involved with the initial startup. It gives a lot of people that know their way around a computer a chance to make money really fast. Well, at least faster than the traditional way of starting a company at a very slow pace until it proved successful over time. Many companies require a lot more equipment than just a computer. Also, you can run this business from almost anywhere that you can get an internet connection. That’s very appealing to many. It’s not always physically demanding, but it will drain your brain juice in a big hurry if your not prepared mentally.

Forrester Research estimates that social networking will be a huge priority of “Enterprise 2.0.” Analyst G. Oliver Young predicts that “Enterprise 2.0″ applications will be a $4.6 billion industry by 2013. Social networks will make up the bulk of that, with nearly $2 billion invested in them. This seems to be on track with where most feel it should be heading for the future.

In an effort to create a safer experience for the everyday user at Paypal, they have decided to block certain web browsers from accessing their website. There are 5 specific areas that the company would like to address first.
1. Prevent fraudulent e-mail from getting into users’ in-boxes
2. Prevent phishing sites by shutting them down
3. Authenticate users so that stolen credentials can’t be used on PayPal
4. Prosecute fraudsters to the full extent of the law
5. Focus on brand and consumer recovery
Out of these 5 items, the focus is mainly on e-mail prevention and phishing-site blocking. Browsers need to contain anti-phishing tools. This is all according to a paper sent out to their shareholders.

Yes, thats right. Britannica widgets are now here to play with the world wide webers. If you decide that you want to post a blog and offer some additional information about your posting, you can look to Britannica to widget that process to help you along. Just follow the instructions and copy and paste the several lines of code associated with each widget as html into the appropriate place on your site. Anybody reader and clicks on a link will get the entire Britannica article on the subject. It’s something new to check out and see if you like this feature or not. It offers something different than wikipedia all the time.

John Donahoe told the Financial Times that the company will consider selling Skype if it can’t find a way to make the service better lined up with helping eBay to become stronger.
“What we’re testing this year are the synergies,” Donahoe told the Financial Times. “If the synergies are strong, we’ll keep it in our portfolio. If not, we’ll reassess it.” If Skype doesn’t perform the way that they want it to, then maybe another company is better off taking over control of it.

The social network that we have all heard of is about to start up Facebook Lexicon. This is a new feature on their website that will track exactly what different users are talking about in their public posts on each others’ “walls,” based on search queries, and turns them into graphs and charts.
This sound like an interesting way to keep tabs on what a lot of different folks are talking about from month to month. It is similar to Google Zeitgeist in the type of data that it collects. “Facebook Lexicon aggregates and analyzes millions of Wall posts on the site every day to provide a snapshot of the collective conversation on the site,” the company explained in an FAQ.

Google has decided to set another goal to reach for in the up and coming years. The Search Engine Giant has given itself about five years to oust Baidu.com’s supremacy for Internet Search in China. Will it really even take that long?
“We would like to aspire to be a market leader in five years,” Kai-Fu Lee, president of the Google’s Greater China operation, told the The Wall Street Journal. Google also is examining possible investments in social networking and mobile Internet services, he said.

Salesforce has decided to integrate Google’s online productivity applications with its on-demand CRM (customer relationship management) offerings. Salesforce is expected to announce plans regarding this Monday. The companies have “always had similar models and philosophies,” Google CEO Eric Schmidt said in a statement.

It was announced that Yahoo will begin a limited test of Google Inc.’s AdSense for Search Service. They say this is nothing more than a test. This test will deliver relevant Google ads alongside Yahoo’s own search results.
As previously announced, Yahoo!’s board of directors is exploring strategic alternatives to maximize stockholder value, including exploration of potential commercial business arrangements. The Company noted that the testing does not necessarily mean that Yahoo! will join the AdSense for Search Program or that any further commercial relationship with Google will result. The Company further stated that it would not comment on the nature or timing of any potential relationship.
