    Getting The Most Out Of Banner Advertising

    Nov. 9th 2009

    The first rule of banner advertising is that you should never jump right into any sort of campaign without doing the proper research first. With that being said, looking into your potential customer base and doing the homework on what attracts them will give you the best possible idea on how you should put together your marketing campaign. After all, you can have a great banner ad, but if it is not catchy and communicating properly to your potential customer base then you are not going to get the results that you desire.

    You already took the time to make sure that your website is perfect, so now you need to get the most out of your banner marketing dollars and work to create a great ad that is going to draw in a good amount of traffic. Generally speaking, any type of product or service that is being sold on the Internet can be advertised with a banner campaign. You want to be able to find websites that are related in some way to the product or service that you offer so that you can be sure to draw in the right customers to your website. Many advertisers are simply amazed at the level of traffic and profits that they can receive after they find just the right websites to place their banner advertisements on.

    On the other end of the spectrum, you could find a handful of golden websites to place your ads on only to find out that your ad is not attracting any customers. You can think of banner marketing almost like fishing. If you do not have the proper bait to attract your desired customers, then you are going to be left at the end of the day with a budget for advertising that has simply gone to waste. Catching, well thought out banner ads are the best and actually the only real way to get the most out of your advertising dollars.

    It never hurts to do a little bit of leg work to find out what your customers are looking for as well as some of the keywords that they may even use as a search online. Knowing your potential customer base can make a world of difference when you want to get the most out of your Internet marketing campaign. Once you have the right ad along with a good selection of website ad space, you are sure to see the results that you have been longing for.

    Attracting New Customers With Banner Advertising

    Oct. 26th 2009

    You know that you have to drive the appropriate amount of traffic to your website, however with all of the different ways to market your business today how can you be sure that you choose the right path? Once you take the time to look into all of the ways that you can attract new customers to your website, then you are sure to see that banner advertising may be a sure bet. As you study this type of marketing further, be sure that you have a good understanding of how these types of campaigns work so that you can have it work to your advantage.

    Anyone who is involved with website advertising will be able to tell you that banner advertising happens to be one of the absolute most powerful ways that you can help to drive much needed traffic to your website. Additionally, this is a great way to advertise without having to invest a huge amount of money to get up and running. Finding about all of the different rates that you can choose from along with the type of traffic that you can expect with each campaign will help you choose the right strategy.

    In order to get the absolute most out of your money when you begin with banner advertising, it is important that you know that it is smart to gear your ads toward a targeted audience. After all, you do not want to have shoppers who are interested in mainly fishing gear looking at advertisements for perfume or shoes. Pick an appropriate ad space that will help you to attract customers who will be most likely to click through to your website. Your images and words on the banner of your choice can draw you the attention that you desire.

    Finally, you should never work under the assumption that your banner advertising is to be used as a sort of sales page for your business. Basically speaking, the majority of potential customers will react best to a catchy photo or strong message that is straightforward and to the point. Giving them just enough of the right information to entice them to click along to your website will be just the trick. All in all, banner advertising is one marketing outlet where you can truly double or even triple your website hits along with your revenue as long as you think out your ad campaigns ahead of time.

    The What, Why and Who of Banner Ads

    Sep. 28th 2009

    If you’re starting to realize that you need to put some effort into search engine optimization for your website, you’ve probably come across banner ads as a part of many SEO companies’ plans of attack. For the Google-shy among you, banner ads have nothing to do with physical printing, hanging, or finding a spot to put it! You will have seen them a hundred thousand times on the net, but probably not realized what they are, their purpose or where they come from. We give you a basic rundown.

    Advertising is the internet’s main reason for being - it’s lifeblood. If you’re an advertiser or website-promoter, banner ads can create a significant proportion of your customer base. If you’re the owner of a well-trafficked or niche website, banner ads can create a significant proportion of your website’s income. A banner ad is essentially a link to another place on the net - only instead of being plain text with a blue underline, it is a graphical button, sometimes with animation and often with textual content included.

    People place banner ads on sites for much the same reasons as they market traditionally. Eye-catching ads are still a great way to brand your company, get people to visit your website, or sell a product. Unlike some other forms of Internet advertising, which also function as a backlink, banner ads are not valuable as part of the link-building arm of an SEO strategy. However, they do get genuinely interested visitors to click through to your website, often in a model where you can pay only for clicks.

    One of the wonderful, yet strangely horrible things about banner ads is that anybody can make them! It is wonderful because they are so accessible, but sometimes horrible because there are so many visually painful images out there. All that needs to happen, in terms of process, is that HTML tags are used to insert an image at a particular place on a web page. This is one of the first things prospective web designers learn. However, banner ads have evolved to a level where expert offerings are those mainly seen on the Internet. Banner ads can really stand out for their amateur design - you don’t want that for your company.

    Banner ads can be an excellent investment, especially on a pay-per-click model for some campaigns. Expert input is a must, though!

    Talk, Talk, Talk! Content in Banner Creation

    Sep. 14th 2009

    While the design of your banner has to convince somebody’s eye to stop on its restless can of a web page and rest on your banner, the next step is equally important. Studies show that the second thing that the eye rests on as a person notices a banner ad is the text. We go beyond the trivial advice to ‘take your time’ and ‘think of something catchy’, and give you some solid guidelines for the content side of banner creation.

    You’ve probably read the trite 10 Most Attention-Grabbing Words in Marketing - words like ‘You’, ‘Free’, ‘Money’, ‘Health’, ‘Easy’, ‘Yes’, ‘Guarantee’, ‘Quick’, Benefit’, and a person’s own name. When the task of copywriting falls to you, though, you’ll quickly realize that with the volume of advertising people are exposed to nowadays, it is more important to stand out than to overuse popular words.

    Try to use emotive words in your banner creation. All of the top ten marketing words made their way into the list because they tug at people’s want-strings. Positive-emotive words tend to work better than those that inspire fear or insecurity. Touting your website or product as the way ‘not to lose’ something, will only have your prospects focusing on the loss.

    If your banner ads will be rotated every so often, you can use related news stories or current events as part of your marketing strategy. This is more likely to hold people’s attention that a direct push for buying a product, which they see a thousand times a day surfing the web.

    Less is more when it comes to creating the copy for your banner ads. If your product or service range, or your website is too diverse to be summed up within a sentence, you should focus on something within your site that will. People don’t click on sites to read advertisements; they click to read the content of the site. Your copy needs to be short enough to catch their attention without them actually focusing on it. Any text should be related to a concrete benefit and be specific.

    Don’t be afraid to use web clichés in some areas of your copy - when it comes to giving the viewer directions, using the exact same wording everybody else does makes it easier and clearer. ‘Click Here’, ‘Submit’, and even ‘Buy Now’ in some cases, are the linguistic equivalent of taking your viewer by the hand and guiding them through a maze.

    The content side of banner creation can be extremely tricky. Review other banner advertisements in your field, and get expert advice before going live, and remember to test, assess, re-test, and re-assess!

    Banner Designs That Make You Money

    Aug. 31st 2009

    The thing which keeps the Internet going (as well as keeping much of it free), is advertising. Banner ads have been a staple of Internet marketing just about since the virtual dinosaur age (back when Times New Roman was your only font option!). We look at how to make sure your banner design keeps ahead of the competition.

    Banner advertisements are made up of two major components - the graphics and the text. There are three contexts that you’ll need to be aware of these components in, which are also the different purposes that banner advertising exists for. These purposes are usually either:

    * To drive traffic to a website
    * To increase awareness of your brand in the marketplace
    * To actually sell a product

    Your banner design tactics will be different depending on which of these goals you are aiming for. Brand awareness ads should use corporate colors and slogans; ads that aim to drive traffic should include a URL as well as being clickable and should be similar in visual style top the page they are located on. Ads which aim to get people to purchase something should take care to look professional and trustworthy, contain a call to action, and even display accreditation logos on the ad as well as the website.

    However, no matter which of the above you are aiming for, there are some general design guidelines you should follow for your banners. Some of these touch on suitability issues that you will have resolved in other areas of creating your banner campaign. For instance, you will need to make sure that your banners are appearing on websites that are related to your target market. Likewise, your design will need to take into account your target market.

    Keep in mind guidelines like:

    * Ensuring that any images of people in your ads look like your target market. If you want women to look at your ads, use images of women. Different ethnic groups, different age groups, and also different levels of professionalism can also be targeted through your choice of image.
    * Using colors that will appeal to your audience. Dark, subtle colors will usually appeal to men, while bright, happy colors appeal to parents, pinks to young girls and blues to young boys.
    * In your written content, use terminology and slang that your target audience would use. Stilted teacher-talk is no good if you are trying to get kids to click on your banners!
    * Animation and ultra-bright colors can be good, but should be used sparingly. When your ad constantly distracts your viewers from what they are trying to read, it is likely the ill-will towards your ad will carry over to your company - this is not only a waste of advertising spend, but costs you money in the long run.

    Banner design is definitely an art - but it also requires sound science behind the inspiration! Why not try an expert Internet marketing banner ad package to start with, and check out the results?

    Banner Advertising for Better Business

    Aug. 17th 2009

    There are a hundred million different banner advertisements on the web. Some are good, some are bad, and some are so annoying that you stop just shy of destroying your own computer to get away from them! Even top-level banner designers and Internet marketers will often say that creating effective banner advertisements is largely a matter of trial and error, and a large dose of intuition. If you don’t have the time for courses in ‘Intuition for Banner Design 101′, we’re here to give you the basics.

    To animate versus not to animate is the first question that banner designers face. You’ll read statistics showing that animated banner advertisements get 30% higher click through rates than non-animated ones - however, ROI on an animated banner ad campaign, especially when extensive testing, re-testing and rotation is required, can quickly dwindle away with the production costs.

    You’ll need to decide what product or service to focus on with your banner ads - or whether to simply encourage your viewers to learn more about the company through the website. A tight focus for the ad will be its only chance of success. Diffused focus in all forms of advertising instantly diffuses profits. Instead of broadening your audience, you are unfortunately losing their interest!

    As well as being simple, your message should be obvious. Even those who would purchase your product/visit your website/ go to your store immediately won’t do so if they can’t understand what the banner advertisement is telling them! You’ll get the same effect with advertising that is misleading - pictures of hot models on a banner for a site selling maternity clothing will only tell your audience that you can’t be trusted. The time wasted will only lead to resentment - something you don’t need!

    Banner advertising should be kept as small as possible, in terms of kilobytes. There are many pages that won’t allow banner advertisements over a certain size, but even on sites that will display ‘larger’ ads, people will go elsewhere if the page takes too long to load. Simple coloring, web-quality graphics and compression techniques can help achieve smaller sizes.

    Rotating your banner advertisements is another key to success. Viewers simply don’t ’see’ the same ads that have been in front of them for a long time. Refreshing your ads can refresh interest in your brand - perhaps at a time when your audience is more likely to visit or purchase.

    Banner Marketing - How Much, How Big, and How To

    Aug. 3rd 2009

    Internet marketing advice columns are filled with non-specificities like ‘try what happens’, ‘ask around’, ‘do some research’, or ‘test and re-test’. Sure, we understand that this is because what works for one company will be useless for another. But we also understand how frustrating it can be to spend hours researching and get no valuable information! When it comes to banner marketing, a niche topic, there are some basic specifics we can give you. Read on for a better idea of how your banner marketing campaign should play out.

    Cost-wise, you should be able to choose either a cost-per-click (CPC), cost per thousand (CPM), or monthly fee model. Your cost model will be determined by your aims for the banner campaign. If brand awareness and promotion is your aim, a CPM or monthly fee model will better allow you to track ROI (that is, measure your investment against your return). A cost per click model will do this in situations where you are trying to drive traffic to your site or to sell a specific product or service. Often, flash ads (for interactive tools) will cost a lot more than standard gifs. This is because of the extra bandwidth they use up.

    Banner ads come in a variety of sizes. Research the site they’ll be shown on, to see what size other advertisers use. Use a different size (as well as making sure your banner design is different from the rest). Typical banner sizes (from guidelines by the Internet Advertising Bureau) include:

    * 300×250 (Medium Rectangle)
    * 180×150 (Rectangle)
    * 728×90 (Leaderboard)
    * 160×600 (Wide Skyscraper
    * 125×125 (Square Button)

    The click through rate for a banner ad is the metric you’ll have most of your hopes on. A well-designed and well-targeted ad will get a better click through rate (CTR) than a poorly designed one placed on the wrong site. However, a ’successful’ click through rate is a matter for individual campaigns. You shouldn’t expect a click through rate of greater than 10% under any circumstances - it just doesn’t happen. A click through rate of 1% is actually decent under most circumstances, and if your click through rate is consistently zero, then you’ll need to rethink your strategy.

    The best measure of success for your banner marketing campaign, though, is the cost per sale. Engaging a good banner creation and internet marketing company can actually help you lower this investment, especially when the mounting dollars come from company time.

    Website Promotion with Banner Advertising

    Jul. 29th 2009

    To generate revenue from your online business, you will need to consider a variety of marketing and advertising methods. For instance, banner advertising remains a top choice for getting more traffic and increasing revenue but the rates have gone down over the past 15 years. Even so, we are now seeing changes with banner advertising that have once again made this an excellent means of website promotion to consider.

    A great way to spread the word about your online business is by using the best banner advertising networks. The key however, is to make sure any ads used for web promotion are relevant to what you have to offer. In fact, the more relevant you can make the banner ads to the product or service being sold the more money earning potential you have.

    With new technology in relation to banner advertising, you will find a number of reputable networks that actually provide not only the ads but also the clients. With this, all you have to do is copy and paste the required code, placing it in the space on your website where you want the ad to appear. With minutes, you will have something new to offer your customers.

    Of course, as with any type of web promotion tool or resource, you want to do your research first. The challenge is that there are some networks that will promise the moon but fail to deliver. Remember, the goal of using banner ads on your website is to increase traffic, promote your website, and ultimately get more dedicated customers.

    Although you have a huge selection of banner ads and networks, here are a few things you need to consider when shopping around.

    * Targeted Traffic - Networks need to have banner ads that connect with what you sell or they are useless.

    * CPA, CPC, and CPM - Each of these payment options for banner ads has pros and cons. Therefore, learn about the variations, finding the one that will benefit you most. In most cases, CPA would be the highest paying option.

    * Control - Unfortunately, some web promotion with banner ads is simply annoying. People will visit a website only to be greeted with bright, flashing, blinking, and animated ads. Instead, choose a network that gives you some control over which banner ads you use.

    * Default Ads - Web promotion using banner ads has many dynamics. For instance, there are many instances in which once a specific number of ads have appeared on a website to certain users, default ads start popping up. In this case, you want to have some control over default ads as well.

    * Pricing - As mentioned, the payout for banner ads has gone down but there are some that pay more and some less. Again, do your research so you can determine which ad will pay the most.

    * Referrals - Finally, using banner ads with affiliates as a means of web promotion is often paid as a percentage of referrals. For this reason, you want to find options that pay a minimum of 5%.

    How to Do Banner Advertising Right

    Jun. 8th 2009

    The great thing about Internet advertising is that you have many incredible options. For those methods that do work, you can increase traffic to your site and turn visitors into actual paying customers. This coupled with having a professional and easy to navigate website, as well as high quality products or services, is a sure recipe for success.

    With Internet advertising, many people use banner ads. With this strategy, customers can see a small, visual representation of your website and the very things you sell. If you want to increase the effectiveness of banner ads, consider the following:

    * Make sure the page within your website on which the banner ad links is exactly where you want it to be. In other words, always perform a test by actually clicking on the ad to ensure it takes your customers to the proper page.

    * Keep Internet advertising such as banner ads simple and clean. Most people view these ads as annoying, so you want to keep the colors muted, avoid flashing lights and images, and create a simple yet effective type advertisement.

    * Typically, when people go into a website, there are so many banner ads that the eye automatically overlooks them. Because of this, place no more than three banner ads on your site so the visitor’s eye is drawn to the ad, not away from it.

    If you want to use banner ads, it all boils down to a number of things. First, you need to make sure the design of the ad is pleasing to the eye, not annoying and obnoxious. Second, the ad should only be placed on other websites that are professionally managed and those that offer products and/or services relevant to what you sell. Third, make sure the banner ad takes people to the right location within the website.

    If you decide you want to use banner ads as a part of your overall Internet advertising scheme, then create the ads so they engage people, keeping people interested in learning more. If banner ads are designed and placed properly, you will find them extremely effective. This will help with branding of your company name while at the same time, driving traffic to your site so your profit grows.

    Web Advertising with Banner Ads

    Jun. 3rd 2009

    One of the longstanding options for web advertising is with banners. Because banner ads work so well, they are a very popular solution for many online business owners. Unfortunately, many new website owners try using web advertising such as this and find they are not getting the results wanted. There are a number of reasons for this and understanding why can help you avoid common mistakes and make better decisions that will increase traffic.

    For one thing, while web advertising in the form of banners works, many people who scan websites will actually do everything they can to avoid clicking on them. The reason is that most people visit a website for a specific product and/or service. They know these banner ads are going to try to sell them something additional. With little time, the visitor will simply stay away from the advertisement.

    Now, the upside to web advertising is that if the banner is placed in the correct place on the website, it can actually entice the visitor to click through instead of stay away. First, make sure you do not clutter your website with an abundance of banner ads. Instead, choose only a few that would be considered the best match. Then, keep the banner ad where it can be seen but not right in the visitor’s face. Often, the eye will automatically see the ad and if well made, they will click on it.

    With web advertising such as banner ads, you have to make some very wise decisions. Typically, banner ads coupled with other tools for generating traffic is your best bet rather than depending on the banner ads alone. If you stick with banners only, you will not get what you want. Instead of increasing traffic, this form of web marketing will cause you to have a low click-through rate, people will become irritated, seeing the ads as sales pitches instead of something that could benefit them, and ultimately, you could actually lose potential customers.
