Traveling is one of my favorite pastimes. I scuba dive, so that opens up a whole new world and a whole new angle on vacations. Sometimes I prefer to go with a large group of people that I know, but because it's difficult for everyone to always plan their vacations at the same time; I sometimes have to travel alone or with one or two people. There are lots of free tips on the Internet about how to plan trips, when to go, and what to take. Getting the proper information is essential for making a dream trip happen without it becoming a nightmare!
The best place to get ideas and advice is at local dive shops. The shop owners and employees are quite often well-seasoned travelers and can recommend the best deals for your money. They also offer group trips so my friends and I can travel with other people from your area. Sometimes I read about places that nobody I know of has ever gone before. That is when I look on the computer for tips and ideas of where to go and where to stay. I sometimes sped hours in search for information of these destinations.
Then I spend time on the websites of the resorts where I'd like to stay. That's a great place to get help in planning and booking accommodations, tours and other activities I'd like to participate in while I'm there. Quite often I even get rental car tips from these websites, as well. These days all resorts want you to book with them, so it's a good idea to read as many articles about the resort as possible before you commit. It's even possible to search message boards for posts about resorts. It's always nice to get feedback from people who have been to the resort, to read their feedback, see how they rate the resort, and get tips on what to bring.
When I go on dive vacations, I go to dive and relax, but sometimes it's nice to be able to catch up with the rest of the world, and to do that I always take a computer with me. When I travel outside of the United Stated, it's always nice to get tips for what currency is accepted, what electrical adaptors might be needed, vaccinations, medications, etc. I often get on my computer for tips on customs and cultures. I read articles about their beliefs and holidays so I know in advance if something special might happen while I'm visiting. I was visiting the island of Bonaire during the New Year's holiday and I was surprised to learn they gather in different areas of the island at specific times of the day to set off hundreds of thousands of fireworks!
In today's fast paced lifestyle I try my best to get the most from my time and my dollar. In doing that, I often find myself searching the Internet. Anytime I can find good, reliable free tips I take them!
