My mother has collected several diamond rings over the years. She inherited some from her mom, and my father has given her several throughout their 50 years of marriage. Mom and I often plan a "girls' day out" where we have lunch and shop or go to a movie. Before our last outing mom decided to have her wedding and engagement rings cleaned, so after lunch we stopped by her favorite jewelry shop. She also took her other rings with her so she could ask the jeweler if they could make her something different using some of the stones from her old rings. He said he'd let her know after he inspected them. So, a nice young sales clerk showed us to a display case containing right hand rings. Mom immediately spotted some three stone rings and decided that's what she wanted.
While the jeweler cleaned and examined my mother's rings, she tried on several three stone rings and looked through a few catalogs to see what else was available. I looked at most of the rings with her, but when she looked through the catalogs I went on my own mission. I was in search of ideas for Christmas gifts for my family and friends.
The store was filled with glass cases of beautiful jewelry; from engagement rings to right hand rings to earrings to pins to brooches to pendant slides to nugget jewelry to religious jewelry to watches and more. I was looking for several styles of earrings, and specific pieces of teen jewelry and for a child. Jewelry needs to look nice as well as be a good value that would also fit my budget.
I always enjoy looking at birthstone jewelry, too. All the different colors of gems and stones are so beautiful! I've always liked aquamarines, emeralds, and all the many colors of sapphires. Since I was born in June, I have three gems to choose from: pearls, moonstone, and Alexandrite. Pearls are always nice for more elegant occasions, but I prefer Alexandrite because they are rare and unique. I'd love to have a pair of earrings someday!
My mother called me over to get my opinion on some of the settings she was interested in, but I really liked her favorite of the ones she tried on. I asked her if she'd be interested in matching earrings or maybe a necklace, as I knew my father would be thrilled to know what she wanted. She's not the easiest person to buy gifts for, so anytime she really likes something, I take note.
When I was done gathering ideas for gifts, I made my way over to the cases of jewelry I can only dream of owning. The case was filled with rings featuring black diamonds, blue diamonds, and yellow diamonds. I had never heard of blue diamonds, but I had seen a couple of black diamonds before. One of these days perhaps I'll own one of these beautiful three stone rings, but for now I can dream.
