The right to bear arms is an integral part of American culture, but it often comes at a price. There are all sorts of arguments against keeping weapons in a gun safe. Many people lament the fact that they never think about going out sport shooting if they don't actually see their gun, others worry that it won't be accessible when they really need it to protect their home or family, while significant numbers of people say that's it's just too darned expensive to buy a gun safe. Here are the reasons we most often hear from gun owners, explaining why after many years of going without, they finally bought a gun safe.

I don't know about you, but my heart breaks a tiny bit every time I hear that a child has been shot with the very gun that was probably bought to protect them.
