Why Not Give Something Funny When You're Shopping for Gifts?

I've started to panic because Mother's Day is just around the corner and I haven't gone gift shopping for my mother. Frankly, I've been doing this-giving her mother's day gifts-for nearly 60 years, and I'm out of ideas. Don't get me wrong; I love my mother and we have great fun together. I just don't know what to get her for mother's day.

Why not flowers, you say. Well, she lives in Florida and anything I could send her would pale in comparison to the flowers she sees out her window. Besides, they're very expensive and around the big holidays the florists aren't very careful. I know; I once worked in a florist.

I could buy her something to wear. That might be nice. But I probably won't. I'm not at shopping for clothes, for myself or anyone else.

The other factor I have to consider is that my mother gets mad at me if I spend too much money on a gift. Frankly, sometimes it's easier to spend more money and get an expensive gift. But no, I have to knock my brains out shopping for an inexpensive and great gift.

Adding to my problem is that my mother may be moving soon, so she doesn't want any more "things." And, she has a very simple diet these days, so chocolate or other food isn't a good idea. This is what I've decided: I'm going to shop for a funny gift and a humorous card.

It's my opinion that the funniest cards and gifts are ones that have some personal connection. You know-silly cat cards for cat lovers. The best card I ever got had white poodles pulling Santa's sled. It was so funny to see these poodles with their poodle haircuts pulling the sled with Santa and all the gifts. It was the most thoughtful card ever, since I have a white poodle that I adore. Give a perfect funny card like that and you don't need to spend money on a gift.

If I were a really funny person, I'd make up cards and t-shirts with the perfect sayings. But I'm not, so I don't. I can, however, recognize it when something is funny. I know it's funny because I laugh out loud. Given that, I should be able to pick out something funny for my mom.

I found some gift shopping websites that specialize in funny cartoon-style greeting cards. Some of them even have mugs and t-shirts and mouse pads - that type of thing. On my favorite website you can personalize the cards and gifts. You can even get a matching set, for example, a card and a mug with the same picture and/or wording.

My mother is a whiz on the computer, so I'm going to get her a mouse pad with a funny drawing. The card will have the same humorous drawing and slightly different wording. No, I'm not going to tell you what it says; that would spoil all the fun!
