This is especially true if you keep your money in an interest-bearing account, such as a NOW checking account or a savings account. It may not be much, but why would you give up the interest you could be earning on your money by handing it over to the insurance company before you have to?

Other Considerations

Low down payment auto insurance isn't the best idea for everyone at all times. While it usually makes sense to spread your payments over 12 months, there are times when it may be better for you to pay the full amount at once. Consider your monthly budget carefully. If you're in a position to pay the full amount of your insurance in a lump sum, but may have trouble meeting monthly payments, or if you have a tendency to forget to pay bills when they're due, a lump sum payment may be safer for you.
