For a sweet ride, you need to keep your car looking its best. Car experts agree: applying car wax is still an important part of keeping a car's finish looking great.
If you want your new car to keep its showroom appearance you need to give it a good wash and wax at least once a year. How often you need to wax depends on the driving and storage conditions. If you keep your car in a garage and stay on paved roads that are not salted in the winter, once a year may be enough. If your car is not garaged, if you life near the ocean or in a sunny climate, or if you drive on salted and sanded roads, you should wax your car more frequently-at least every six months. The age of the car also affects your waxing schedule; a brand new car, for example, has all the shine it's going to get, while an old car needs more work if you plan to keep it.
You have choices when it comes to the car wax you use. You can use a waterless wash and wax formula, a spray wax, a fast wax, or the traditional rub-on wax. Some people use a polishing compound to remove oxidation, but you have to be careful not to rub too hard or you will damage the car's finish.
Unless you plan to use a wash and wax formula, you need to wash and rinse your vehicle before you wax it. Wash your car out of the sun, because sun can soften paint and lead to more scratching. When you rinse make sure you get all the soap off before you apply the wax. Now you are ready to apply wax in sections with a lamb's wool mitt, soft cotton rag, or microfiber cloth.
A good quality car wax will work on many surfaces. You don't need to use one product as an auto wax and another as a truck wash. A multi-purpose product works on cars, big rigs, race cars, trucks, bikes, glass, chrome, and even canoes and kayaks. Some products are more abrasive than others, so you do have to take some care in choosing the right product for your vehicle. Consider the type of finish on your car and even the color; dark paints show scratches more than light vehicles.
A generation ago car owners spent hours lovingly washing and waxing their cars. They missed no spots as they brought their vehicles to a smart shine with auto detailing. Most twenty-first century car owners do not take such pride in their vehicles. Washing and waxing is a necessary chore for which they don't have much time. There are products on the market that take less time to apply. What's most important is that you wax your car regularly; there's no need make the job harder than it needs to be. Choose a wax that's right for your car, easy to apply, and easy on the wallet. You will find many car waxes to choose from online or at your local auto supply store.
