She is the only artist in history to have been commissioned by both the Royal and Ancient Golf Club of St. Andrews and the United States Golf Association to paint the annual official paintings and prints of the British and the U.S. Open Championships. Her golf landscapes hang on the walls of some of the most famous golf luminaries of all time, including Jack Nicklaus, who owns several.

Golf Artist Marci Rule Captures the Spirit of Golf

Unlike Hartough, golf artist Marci Rule didn't intend to make art her lifetime pursuit. In college, she focused on a business degree, believing that a career in art was impractical. She continued to paint as a hobby and to produce paintings for friends, however, and eventually decided to embark on a career as a painter. Like Hartough, Rule was inspired by the beauty of an area well known for its stunning golf landscape. Rule's inspiration came from the almost surreal loveliness of Pinehurst, North Carolina. It didn't take her long to turn her focus from general landscapes to golf courses, and her paintings of North Carolina golf courses helped her develop her unique style and touch with golf landscapes.

Rule's work includes views of the best-known holes at Augusta National Golf Club, including separate prints and paintings of the three holes that make up the Amen Corner. Among her most striking works, though, are her golf paintings of the 16th Hole at Cypress Point and the 16th Hole at Hazeltine, where the stunning clarity of her colors are nearly luminous.
