Just as we are more conscious of national security these days, home security remains a top concern in the minds of most people. Your home is your proverbial castle, and although you can't build a moat around your house, you can - and should - take steps to make your home as safe as possible. When you do, you'll sleep easier at night, whether you're tucked into your own bed or in a hotel hundreds of miles away. Here, then are two home security products that will keep your mind at ease:
1. Alarm Systems - Every home should have an alarm system. Today, the availability of wireless alarm systems means that you don't have to do major retrofitting in order to install one. A variety of wireless outdoor alarm systems are also available. Remember, though, that even the best alarm system is useless unless you're conscientious about arming it.
2. Motion Alarms - There are any number of motion alarms designed to alert you when there's unauthorized activity in or outside of your home. There are motion-activated security lights for outdoor use that, when activated, trigger a chime or the sound of a barking dog. Motion detectors that are mounted on the ceiling can be activated or deactivated with remote controls, as are strobe motion alarms. Keep in mind, though, that pets can trigger indoor motion alarms, so arm them accordingly.
Personal security goes hand-in-hand with home security. Having the ability to ward off intruders - whether you're at home, in the car, or walking down the street - is of utmost importance. Here are some products that will assist you in self-defense:
3. Stun Guns - Stun guns come in a variety of styles and with a range of voltages. You can purchase straight stun guns or curved stun guns, along with holsters. Mini stun guns that can be held in the palm of your hand, or easily carried in a purse, are also available, as are stun gun batons. Some stun guns are even designed as pens or cell phones. Voltages range from 200,000 volts to 900k volts.
Pepper Spray - Less invasive than stun guns, pepper spray is a must-have for self-defense. Typically, pepper spray comes in a carrying case and/or with a key ring for easy access. Like stun guns, pepper spray can be disguised as a pen or other object.
There are many other products that you can use for home security and personal self-defense. Whatever you choose, become familiar with how each item works, practice using it until your comfortable with it, and then sleep well at night!
