LONDON, ENGLAND, UK - September 26, 2006 - From October 26-28,
2006, the 2006 Annual Meeting of the European Environmental
Tribunal will be held at the Portuguese medieval village of
Trancoso, in Northern Portugal.
The European Environmental Tribunal is a non-profit entity based
in London, oriented to the promotion of free debates, with the
environment as an anthropological question. The Meeting is
promoted by the city of Trancoso and by the Foundation for the
Arts, Sciences and Technology Observatory, and it is directed
by the architect and composer Emanuel Dimas de Melo Pimenta.
At the Meeting, thinkers, philosophers, professionals, artists
and scientists, coming from the most varied countries, are
brought together for a profound reflection on the human being, on
the paths traced by Humanity, about the past, present and the
future with the environment as a human and cultural fundamental
question.
With the participation of important personalities from the most
diverse countries including anthropologist Arjun Appadurai from
India and the United States, scientist Dan Shechtman from Israel,
lawyer Durval Noronha from Brazil artist Josephine Coy, from
England and artist and philosopher Fernando Leal Audirac from
Mexico, among others, the Meeting will have a strong
transdisciplinary character, crossing fields like chemistry,
anthropology, law, art, architecture, urban planning, philosophy
and more. Admittance is free and there will be simultaneous
translations made.
During the Meeting, the latest book by Lester Brown "Plan B 2.0"
will be released in its first translation into Portuguese. Lester
Brown will also participate with a lecture live from Washington,
DC, via the Internet. The philosopher of art, Rene Berger, will
also participate live from Lausanne, Switzerland. The Locarno
Video Art Festival, "the first video art festival of the world",
will present some historical video works in homage to its founder
Rinaldo Bianda, who disappeared a few years ago.
