Funds Will Help Recruit More Volunteers To Advocate For Abused Children.

TOWSON, MD - July 7, 2006 - The Maryland Court Appointed Special
Advocates (CASA), the leading voice for children who have been
abused and neglected, has been awarded a ,000 grant from the
National CASA Association. The monetary award recognizes
Maryland CASA's successful efforts in raising public awareness,
starting new CASA programs, providing training and technical
assistance, and monitoring legislative and court decisions which
affect CASA's work on behalf of children.

Edward T. Kilcullen, the Maryland CASA state director, said "This
grant will allow Maryland CASA to continue our work toward the
goal of providing a volunteer advocate for every abused and
neglected child in the state." This will be accomplished by
raising awareness about the needs of Maryland's children and
recruiting additional volunteers to serve as advocates. There
are more than 11,000 children in foster care in Maryland and CASA
currently serves less than ten percent.

Maryland CASA, a nonprofit organization incorporated in 1998,
assists local CASA programs located in Baltimore City and 15
counties across the state. Maryland CASA is a member of the
National CASA Association, a membership organization founded in
1984 with over 900 member programs nationwide. CASA, also known
as "Voices for Children", is dedicated to advocating for safe,
permanent homes for every abused and neglected child in the
juvenile court system. Volunteers are ordinary citizens, over
the age of 21, who undergo rigorous screening and training before
being appointed by a judge to advocate for a child. For more
information about CASA or to become a Court Appointed Special
Advocate, please call (888) 833-2272 or visit
