ORLANDO, FLORIDA - July 6, 2006 - The town of Orlando recently
became home to the first Spinal Aid Center in Orange County. The
Spinal Aid Center offers a relatively new technology called non-
surgical spinal decompression - a treatment that offers new hope
to sufferers of severe, chronic back pain.
Dr. David Nahali of the new Spinal Aid Center, says he opened the
facility because so many of his patients came to him complaining
of chronic back pain caused by, disc bulging, disc herniation,
facet arthorosis, failed back syndrome, stenosis and sciatica.
They were convinced that pills and surgery were their only option
to relieve their pain.
Gary Claxton, Vice President of the Henry J. Kaiser Foundation,
which monitors health care spending says, "The rising costs and
the growth in the number of back surgeries is a good example of
why healthcare expenditures are more than double inflation". Dr.
Doug Burton, surgeon and senior spine research professor at the
University of Kansas Medical Center says, "There is a major shift
to Spinal-fusion procedures that use expensive mechanical devices
to help fuse diseased vertebra together. However," Dr. Burton
added, "it's an uncertain outcome". He further stated that these
procedures are "expensive and have not resulted in significantly
better outcomes" and he limits the procedure himself.
Until now, most physicians have been left with only the
prescription for medications, invasive procedures known as
neuromodulation and neuroablation or surgery. Unfortunately, a
lot of chronic back pain patients end up addicted to narcotic
pain meds. The scientific discovery known as Non-surgical spinal
decompression is a medical breakthrough in the non-drug, non-
surgical approach to chronic back pain that works according to
the American Journal of Pain Management. They reported an 86
percent success rate in patients suffering from herniated discs
after receiving non-surgical spinal decompression.
In many cases of back pain, bulging or herniated disc material is
often the culprit. The bulging material puts pressure on the
nerves and creates pain that can travel into the buttocks and
even down the legs. Non-surgical decompression relieves pain by
stretching the spine, effectively creating a vacuum (negative
pressure) that draws the bulging and herniated disc material back
into place. As the pressure inside the disc decreases, so does
the pain. Even more important, the patient can be considered
"cured" and should not have to return.
Unlike surgery, there is no recovery period for non-surgical
spinal decompression. Patients may go home or return to a non-
strenuous activities after their treatment. The cost is less than
one-tenth the cost of back surgery, and many insurance companies
cover portions of the treatment.
