SAN FRANCISCO, CA - December 6, 2005 - Violist Elizabeth Prior
Runnicles, violinist Florin Parvulescu, and Philharmonic Music
Director, Andrei Gorbatenko will open this mid-season celebration with
Mozart's timeless "Sinfonia Concertante in E-Flat Major". Also on the
program is Mozart's "Adagio" and "Fugue" in C Minor and J.S. Bach's
Brandenburg Concerto No. 3, music that Mozart would likely have
enjoyed on his birthday. "A man of Mozart's bewildering genius is
cause for, not only a celebration but, life-long study," says
Gorbatenko. "His contribution to music is immeasurable." The event
will be held at the Legion of Honor's Florence Gould Theatre on
January 15, 2006 at 6pm. The birthday celebration will continue
through the Philharmonic's May 28th Season Finale at Herbst Theatre in
a performance of Mozart's "Violin Concerto No. 4" featuring world-
renowned violin virtuoso Chee-Yun.
The San Francisco Student Philharmonic draws most of its musicians
from the San Francisco Conservatory of Music and combines them with an
instrumental faculty of musicians from the San Francisco Symphony.
This partnership fosters an educational atmosphere by giving career
bound student musicians the opportunity to rehearse and perform
alongside seasoned professionals of the highest caliber. The results
are showcased every season in their public orchestral concerts and in
their presentations demonstrating to public school children how
dedication and a strong work ethic create success.
Tickets are generally available at the door. General admission is $20
and students and seniors are $12. Advance Tickets are available until
January 1, 2006 by mailing checks to: San Francisco Student
Philharmonic, P.O. Box 591137, San Francisco, CA 94159.
