FORT ST. JOHN, BC CANADA - August 22, 2006 - For years, families
have used games as a way of spending quality time with one
another. That is what inspired Merle Wideman, owner and co-
creator of Miracle Ventures, to develop a new version of the
ancient, but still popular, Crokinole game.
The newly-released version of the game, Decca Crokinole, uses a
"decagonal" or 10-sided game board. Wideman wanted to create a
game that was just as fun as the original Crokinole, but with a
new look and a unique shape. He desired for families across the
United States and Canada to still enjoy the Crokinole they love
and remember, but with a new elaborate game board.
"It is said that the family who plays together, stays together,"
says Wideman.
The original Crokinole game has been around since the 1800's, and
is thought to be a blend of French, English, German and East
Indian games. Crokinole is still very popular in Canada and the
United States today.
The first-edition Decca Crokinole is an elite model with a black
walnut decorative playing surface on a maple base. This edition
will be a rare treasure and gift during the upcoming holiday
season. The game boards and pieces are hand-crafted by Wideman's
cousin, an "Old Order" Mennonite craftsman. Each game board is
made using fine hardwood.
The boards are designed to last generation after generation,
unlike most games that are found on the shelves today. Wideman
feels that families who gather around the table for a game are
building memories that will last a lifetime.
"Decca Crokinole can be enjoyed by children as young as five, and
by adults as old as one hundred and five! There's really no age
limit," says Wideman.
Traditional games such as Crokinole never become obsolete. They
are passed down from parents to children, and even to
grandchildren. The new Decca Crokinole game will keep this
tradition while giving the actual playing board a new, attractive
design.
