SAN DIEGO, CA - August 2, 2007 - New business rides wave of stand up
surfing. When tow-in surfer, pro kiteboarder, and kayaker Jeremy Fry
first set foot on a stand up paddle surfboard, he was hooked. The man
who was introduced to stand up paddle surfing a short year ago was
determined to make this sport a more permanent part of his life. His
goal on the first go out of stand up surfing was to paddle out, catch
a wave, ride it in and make it back out to the line up all while
standing up, using a paddle, and without falling. His goal was
realized and in fact exceeded his expectations. That first session
peaked Jeremy's interest in stand up paddle surfing, and opened new
opportunities for Jeremy and his wife Stephenie. Jeremy Fry says,
"Paddle surfboards allow you to bypass the crowded surf spots, and
still have as much or more fun in the water as traditional surfboards.
The wave you seen over in the distance that no one surfs and everyone
thinks is junk, can be riden on a stand up board and you can have the
time of your life."
Jeremy was so enamored with the sport that he and his wife Stephenie,
also a stand up paddle surfer, decided to build a business around the
sport. The result, Wave Rod Hawaii LLC, their new line of stand up
and traditional surf boards. They are the "hot rods of the ocean".
With only 6 months under their belt, the business is relatively new in
Hawaii and California. Despite historical roots, stand up paddle
surfing is still gaining momentum with a wider audience of water
enthusiasts. There is a wide range of interest in stand up paddle
surfing from the ocean surf to flat water paddling in rivers, bays,
and lakes. Men, women, teens, and children alike are able to enjoy
this sport and get a great work out at the same time. Because of the
versatility of the boards, they can be used for distance paddling,
flat water paddling, or in sizeable surf. Blue w/ flames, red w/
flames, yellow, and green contrast the bright white of the Wave Rod
Hawaii designs. The bottom of the boards have double barrell concave,
which help them to release water, and enable a surfer to drive down
the line of a wave. The dimensions of the stand up paddle boards are
10'10" x 28.5 x 4. and 10'0" x 27.75 x 4. They are designed to
provide stability and at 20 pounds they are light and maneuverable.
Stephenie Fry says, " A lot of women who don't surf love to stand up
paddle and can do it and not feel intimidated." For 12 years Jeremy
and Stephenie owned Kayak Adventures, Inc., a guided kayak tour
company on the Wailua River in Kauai, Hawaii. They sold their
business on May 1, 2007 to focus on Wave Rod Hawaii, LLC and a
lifestyle that allows them to spend more time with family on the
Mainland (California and Nevada). Dave Andrews a friend of the Frys
will manage the Kauai operations and Hawaii distribution. The Frys
have plans to sell the boards in Hawaii, California, and the mainland
abroad from the west coast to the east coast and anywhere in between
on lakes, rivers, and bays. In addition to the stand up paddle
surfboards, Wave Rod Hawaii, LLC has created four styles of surfboards
7'10" fun boards, 6'8" flat fishes, 6'6" big boy short boards, and
5'10" retro fishes. Wave Rod offers a complete stand up package with
board bag, fin, deck pad, paddle, leash and a T-Shirt. Wave Rod
Hawaii boards can be found in shops on Kauai and Oahu and North County
San Diego.
