New York, NY April 1, 2005 - Lebhar-Friedman has acquired Dowden Health Media, a 16-year-old producer of medical journals, consumer magazines, newsletters and physician education programs, completing a merger of two distinguished family-owned publishing companies, according to Mr. J. Roger Friedman, President & CEO of Lebhar-Friedman, Inc.
Dowden Health Media will become a subsidiary and operate as the medical publishing division of Lebhar-Friedman, the leading independent publisher and provider of information serving the retail and food service communities and their vast supplier networks. Owned by the family that founded it 80 years ago, Lebhar-Friedman´s diverse interests include Nation´s Restaurant News, Drug Store News, Chain Store Age, Home Channel News and DSN Retailing Today, plus event and association management activities.
Readers and suppliers of both companies´ print and electronic products will benefit from the extensive editorial network and combined resources that this merger provides.
With this acquisition, Lebhar-Friedman has achieved several important goals. "We constantly look for ways to diversify our revenue streams so that we can ensure the longevity and continued prosperity of Lebhar-Friedman while offering increased opportunities to our employees," said Mr. Friedman. "Dowden Health Media brings us closer to those goals by providing deeper access to the rapidly growing health care market a market with which we are already familiar through our Drug Store News products. We have also allied ourselves with a family-owned company whose values are in line with our own a company with a deep commitment to the welfare of its customers and employees."
Carroll Dowden, founder and CEO of Dowden Health Media, says, "This transaction will enable us to fulfill our goals of further expansion into the healthcare and specialty consumer magazine markets, while insuring that we are a vital part of a company with similar values."
Dowden Health Media will continue to operate from offices in Montvale, N.J., and Northbrook, Ill., under current management with long-term employment agreements. Lebhar-Friedman´s principal office is in New York with other facilities in Tampa, Fla., and Louisville, Ky., as well as business interests in Japan and Spain.
