"Sinister characters in a fiercely competitive, high-tech world!"

PHILADELPHIA, PA - May 10 - A new mystery thriller by Bruce Makous, author of
RIDING THE BRAND, will be released in June 2006. "Makous shows his
masterful skill in bringing to life lovable but sinister characters in
a fiercely competitive, high-tech world." That's what Richard Burgin,
editor of the award-winning Boulevard literary journal, said about
RIDING THE BRAND, Bruce Makous' 2004 debut novel. In VIRTUALLY DEAD,
Makous introduces us to a new set of sinister characters, some not so
lovable.

Like RIDING THE BRAND, VIRTUALLY DEAD is placed in a high tech milieu
in Philadelphia. The story focuses on young executive Sandra Casson,
who has landed her dream job as a marketer for a video game company.
The mystery begins when she discovers the body of her boss, a young
man from a wealthy Philadelphia Main Line family, lying dead in the
video game testing lab. Sandra soon finds herself accused of his
murder, and as the evidence mounts against her, she goes into hiding.

Enter attractive South Philly police detective Leo Mastrone. When she
asks Leo for help, he is faced with the toughest decision of his life.
Should he help her out and put his career and his life on the line? Or
should he tow the line and let her take the rap for a crime she did
not commit?

"The story explores how appearances are not necessarily reality,"
author Makous stated, "and how love can reveal true character." From
hi-tech geniuses to Main Line socialites to petty mobsters, VIRTUALLY
DEAD offers enough mystery and suspense to entertain the most ardent
crime and thriller fans.

ABOUT THE AUTHOR

VIRTUALLY DEAD is Bruce Makous's second novel. His first, RIDING THE
BRAND, was released in September 2004. For the past 14 years, Bruce

of America, and had appeared on author panels at Bouchercon, Malice
Domestic, and other mystery book conferences. On June 24, Bruce will
appear at Murder Ink, a book conference in Parsippany, N.J.

Bruce is a native Philadelphian who studied in the Creative Writing
department at Oberlin College, where he was appointed student teacher
and an editor of a literary journal. He pursued a career as an actor
and playwright in New York City, and he performed in a number
professional productions and achieved performances of plays he had
written. He served as manager and producer at theatre companies in New
York, Detroit, Philadelphia, and Columbus, and created many
award-winning productions.

Bruce was a philanthropic fundraiser for many years at cultural and
educational institutions, and currently raises funds for cancer
research. He has served as a board member and officer of several local
