Time Magazine names it one of the six "Books for a Better You in 2006"

PROVIDENCE, RI - January 6, 2006 - When "Secrets of Happily Married
Men" was listed on Time Magazine's list of "6 Books for a Better You
in 2006," psychiatrist Scott Haltzman, MD, knew he was on to something
big. Dr. Haltzman, a Brown University faculty member and marriage
therapist, always knew men wanted to know how to build and maintain a
happy relationship. "There's a myth that because men don't like to
talk about their relationship, they don't care about building a strong
one with their partner. The research shows that's just not true." Dr.
Haltzman contends that men feel deeply about building and maintaining
a strong relationship with their wife or girlfriend. "They simply
don't have the verbal skills that women do to express that wish."

That's because, as many women already know, men are less able to read
emotions. "There's a bridge between the part of the brain that feels
and the part of the brain that talks; that bridge is more developed in
women," says Haltzman. So it's true that a husband can't talk about
his emotions as well as his wife can. This often leads to a woman
being upset at her man because she may be expecting something from him
that he just can't give.

"Luckily, even though guys can't talk about their relationship, they
still want to read about what they can do to improve it," points out
Haltzman. In the "Secrets Of Happily Married Men", the Yale-trained
psychiatrist explores eight ways that husbands can win their wives'
hearts. Bucking the tide of "inner child" psychobabble, Haltzman
speaks in a language that men understand. Among his suggestions are:

- Give Your Mate The Number One Gift In A Marriage: A Willing
Ear To Listen. And don't interrupt! A guy's first instinct is
to stop his partner in her tracks so he can give her a
solution to her problem. What men don't understand is that
women feel more supported when their mate simply listens
without trying to fix her problem.

- Apply The Skills You Use At Work To Your Marriage Such As:
learn what you're supposed to do; find new and better ways of
meeting your goals and get to know your most important
customer - your wife.

- Dare To Be Metrosexual. A new cologne, haircut and wardrobe
go a long way toward winning your partner's heart. Guys who
spent hours in front of the mirror getting ready for a date
often give up their grooming habits after marriage. Keeping up
appearances shows that you still care about attracting your
mate.

- And the main piece of advice, "Your woman has to feel like
she's your number one priority. Men don't always realize how
their wives need to be put first. When a woman knows that you
are 100 percent invested in her happiness, she starts to meet
your needs in return," says Haltzman.
