ORLANDO, FL - June 30, 2005 - Attacks, robberies, kidnappings and
rapes are on the rise, and those caught by surprise can be helpless
against a predator if not prepared in advance. That's why Jonathan
Burke is speaking out to people of all ages, encouraging them to fight
back using simple self-defense methods. He has dedicated his life to
helping people learn how to escape when and if a predator attacks.
The recent Natalie Holloway case has heightened public awareness, and
reveals that these attacks are not confined to small children alone.
Everyone is at risk. Burke is saddened that so many fall victim and,
usually because of paralyzing fear, end up losing their lives.
"Within just five short minutes, I can show a young person how to
potentially escape from an attacker, and I can build their confidence
at the same time. It's a shame that so many fall victim when a simple
move might save their life," Burke states.
Burke has spent more than a decade teaching self-defense, martial arts
and rape awareness, and has frequently worked as an instructor for the
US Armed Forces. He's the one many look to for defense techniques.
Burke trained in the martial art of jiu-jitsu under Royce Gracie, a
world-renowned ultimate Fighting Champion, and became one of only five
certified black belt instructors by Gracie. Burke's skills and
training led him to an opportunity to instruct members of the US
Special Forces and 82nd Airborne in special self-defense skills.
Burke also trained serving females and female spouses in rape
prevention and street awareness. Since that time, Burke has provided
training to Federal Air Marshals, and many of his techniques have been
implemented by the Navy SEALs, US Special Forces, US ARmy Rangers as
well as other members of the US Armed Forces.
For years, Burke has been helping rape victims to overcome their fears
and regain confidence after an attack has occurred. Fear is a victims
worst enemy because it grips the soul and paralyzes a person to a
state that prevents them from fighting back in many cases.
A training series called "Cardio Defense" has recently been released by
Burke, which equips children and adults of all ages with fourteen
specific moves for defense and escape during an attack. Burke's desire
is to make these techniques easily accessible for everyone.
Burke states, "There's an urgent need for learning these simple moves
in light of recent events. Children need to be taught what to do in
case of an attack."
Burke currently owns Apex Martial Arts, a training facility located in
Orlando, Florida. Since not everyone can travel to Florida for
personal training, the "Cardio Defense" series is Burke's avenue for
making these much needed skills available to everyone.
